How to retain the leading zeros on car numbers

When you download a file from DLBRacing.com that contains leading zeros in the numbers, save the file to disk (see Figure 1) with a .txt extension (see Figure 2) instead of opening directly in Microsoft Excel.

Now start Microsoft Excel and open the text file.  Be sure and select "Text Files" from the Files of type: dropdown (see Figure 3).

Once you open the file this will begin the Text Import Wizard (see Figure 4). Click Next > until you reach Step 3 (see Figure 5).

At this Step you can change the formatting of the column that contains the numbers to retain the leading zeros.  Select the column that contains the numbers.  Then select the Text radio button (see Figure 5) to format this column as text and not as a number.  This will cause Microsoft Excel to retain the leading zeros on the numbers.

As you can see in Figure 6 the leading zeros have been retained.
